Job Summary

The Center for Entrepreneurial Innovation at Gateway Community college is seeking a Workforce Development Analyst Senior to oversee and support an innovative entrepreneurial support program that provides high technology start-up companies with a guided customer discovery and market research program. This position is responsible for providing advanced professional level research and analysis for the LabForce project and business clients of the Validation Lab in support of entrepreneurship and economic development activities to start new business. This position develops informational materials for clients on market research and new product validation. Additionally, this position will support the development and offering of workshops, seminars, and events to be offered to the public on topics related to the validation of and commercialization of new technologies.

Essential Functions

40% - Accesses Client research data – Works one on one and in group settings to assist clients in accessing the industry and market information they need to make informed choices about their product & market fit; searches public and private industry databases for competitive intelligence, technology trends, market size data and customer demographics.

30% - Coordinates cohort-based training programs including the supervision of student interns: Identifies, develops and delivers a curriculum of training workshops and online resources that helps to prepare founders of technology-based companies to successfully launch new products.

20% - Promotes Validation Lab: Connects with the greater Phoenix business start-up community to encourage their participation in Center for Entrepreneurial Innovation and Validation Lab training as well as business incubation programs.

10% - Develops processes and procedures for market research: Identifies and secures the necessary market research and industry intelligence data sources. Creates the processes and procedures for making these resources available to Arizona start-up companies.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution in business, public administration or related field and two years of professional economic development or directly related experience.


Six years of full time work experience as described above in professional economic development sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered.

Related fields to include a Bachelor of Science in marketing, market research or research analyst. Work experience that that includes entrepreneurial activities such as starting a small business or working directly with founders of a start-up company will be considered.

Desired Qualifications

A. Experience in conducting business market research and analysis with an emphasis on high growth technology-based markets, including experience with market analysis software.

B. Experience with federal, state, and private research grants, including SBIR and STTR grant programs.

C. Experience with Community outreach and training.

D. Bilingual in English and Spanish.

Special Working Conditions

  • Possession of a valid State of Arizona Class D Driver's License is required; employee must meet district minimum standards regarding driving:


  • Travel to campus during interview/selection process will be at candidate’s own expense

  • Will be required to travel or be assigned to all MCCCD locations

  • May require numerous evenings or weekends

  • May require prolonged periods of viewing a computer screen

  • May be required to lift or carry up to #25 lbs
